Roucan Loch Crematorium

Roucan Loch Crematorium opened in March 2005.

Set in 50 acres of undulating countryside,- surrounded by a mature Scots Pine wood, completely hidden from any road, yet less that four miles from Dumfries town centre.

The loch is full of trout and bird-life, including our own family of swans, - while the surrounding woodland abounds with deer, badgers, foxes, squirrels and owls.

We have chosen to maximise the visual impact of the site,- by allowing the main cortege vehicles to pass as close to the loch as possible,- but the most important aspect of the design is that the site has been deliberately planned to preserve the natural beauty and delicate ecosystem of the area.

The Chapel

The building has been carefully designed in a Scandinavian style with a timber finishto blend in with its surroundings,- and great care has been taken not to destroy the existing plantations.  On one side,- the view from our Chapel window overlooks the loch,- while on the other,- your eye is drawn to the pine forest beyond a water cascade.

Book of Remembrance

A memorial lodge,- in the style of a log cabin,- complete with a turf roof,- was created, allowing people to access the Book of Remembrance in isolations from the main building.  This unique facility also houses a memorial tree where people can place an engraved leaf.  Please see the 'Memorial Option' page for more details.
